How to Renew Your Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License

How to Renew Your Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License

Renewing your Texas air conditioning and refrigeration license can be a confusing process, but it doesn’t have to be. If you need some direction, check out our easy to follow guide!

When to Start Renewing Your Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License

You will want to begin the process of renewing your Texas air conditioning and refrigeration license at least a full month before your license expires. We recommend starting two months in advance. If your license expires while you are trying to renew it, you will incur extra fees, and it could take even longer to get back in good standing.

Continuing Education for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

If you are an air conditioning and refrigeration contractor, you will need to complete at least eight hours of certified continuing education coursework every year. Most of these classes are at your own pace, and you will receive a certificate of completion once you complete all of the requirements, making them easy to fit into your busy schedule.

Changing Your Endorsement Class and Other Information

If you need to change your endorsement class or you want to add an endorsement to your license, you can do so when you renew your license. You can also update your contact or business information, address, and insurance information when you renew.

To add an endorsement to your license, you will need to fill out the appropriate forms, pay the $25 fee, and take a new licensing exam.

If you already have a Class B license with at least one endorsement, and you want to update your license to a Class A, you will need to submit the correct form, pay a $25 change fee, make sure that you have the correct insurance for the increased requirements, and take a new licensing exam.

If you are employed by another contractor who has insurance, or if you don’t provide services to the public, you might be able to keep your license active without having to meet the usual insurance requirements. It doesn’t cost you anything; you just need to fill out the correct form and make sure you submit all of the required supporting documentation.

Renewing an Expired Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License

If your license has expired, you are no longer legally allowed to do air conditioning and refrigeration contracting. To get back to work quickly, you will want to pay the additional fees as soon as possible. Up to 90 days, you will only have to pay one-and-a-half times the usual renewal fee, but after that time (up to 18 months), you will have to pay double the standard renewal fee. If it has been over 18 months but less than three years, you may put in a request to the executive director to try to renew your license; the fee will still be double the usual amount.

Cost of Renewing Your Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License
